Why Golfers and Clubs Choose Ahead

Four decades of headwear made for people who wear a hat all day, in heat and rain, and expect it to look the same the following morning.

Performance Fabrics

Moisture-wicking crowns and lightweight hats designed to keep the head cool through eighteen holes, with sweatbands that dry between rounds instead of stiffening.

Shape Retention

Mid fit and classic cut crowns hold structure after washing. Brims stay where they were bent, and straw hats resist crushing in a golf bag.

Custom Decoration

In-house embroidery and blank stock for clubs, resorts and corporate orders. Custom Ahead hats ship from small logo runs through full wholesale caps programs.

The Story Behind Ahead

Ahead was founded in 1996 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, and grew out of the golf world rather than the fashion one. The company started by supplying headwear to pro shops and resorts, and that channel still shapes how the products are cut, decorated and sized today.

The brand became a fixture at major championships and tournament merchandise tents, where volume, turnaround and licensing accuracy matter more than trend cycles. That work built the decorating operation that now handles custom logo programs for clubs, universities and corporate accounts.

The catalog widened over time. Performance hats and lightweight caps sit alongside fine hats, straw golf hats, bucket hats and sun styles, plus vintage-inspired cuts and casual shapes for people who bought their first Ahead cap at a course and kept wearing it off it.

Questions About Ahead Hats

Sizing, custom orders, fabric care and fit differences — the questions that come up most often before and after a purchase.

What is the difference between Ahead hat fits?

Classic cut runs with a fuller, more traditional crown and a relaxed feel. Mid fit sits between that and a fitted profile, with a slightly lower crown and a cleaner shape through the sides. Performance styles typically use the mid fit. If a cap has felt too tall in the past, mid fit is usually the better choice.

Does Ahead make custom logo hats?

Yes. Custom Ahead hats are a core part of the business, with embroidery and applique available on most crowns. Blanks are stocked across the performance, fine and classic ranges. Minimum quantities vary by style and decoration method, so club and corporate buyers should ask about the specific model before committing to a color.

How should a performance hat be washed?

Hand wash in cool water with mild detergent and reshape the crown while damp. Air dry away from direct heat. Machine washing and dryers break down the sweatband and can distort a structured crown. Straw hats should never be soaked; wipe the brim with a barely damp cloth instead.

Are Ahead hats good for hot weather?

The lightweight and performance lines are built for it. Vented panels and moisture-wicking sweatbands move heat away from the head, and straw golf hats add shade across the face and neck. For full sun exposure over several hours, a wide-brim sun hat or bucket hat covers more than a baseball cap does.

What size Ahead hat should be worn?

Most styles come in adjustable or one-size-fits-most construction, with fitted options in select performance models. Measure around the head just above the ears and check that number against the size chart on the product page. Between two sizes, the larger one is generally more comfortable for all-day wear.

Can a hat be worn with long hair?

A low ponytail pulled through the back closure works with most adjustable caps. A loose braid sits comfortably under a bucket or sun hat brim. For a fine hat or straw style, tucking hair behind the ears and letting the length fall outside the crown keeps the shape of the hat intact.

What Customers Say About Ahead Hats

Feedback from golfers, club members and everyday wearers on fit, fabric and how the hats hold up after a full season.

Man in wide-brim hat

Bought the Palmer for a trip to Pinehurst. Kept its shape after four humid rounds and a rain delay. The sweatband dried overnight, which my old cap never managed to do.`

Michael R.

Woman smiling in casual setting

The straw golf hat gets more use than expected. Wide enough brim for real shade, light enough to forget about, and it survived being packed in a bag for a week.

Sarah T.

Man wearing navy cap outdoors

Ordered forty custom caps for the club championship. Embroidery came out clean and the color matched the sample. Classic cut fit most guys, though a few wanted the mid fit.
